Joint Budget Committee Reaches Compromise Proposal
(COLUMBIA, S.C.) – House Speaker Murrell Smith (District 67- Sumter) issued the following statement after today’s budget conference committee finalized their report:
“This budget marks a historic accomplishment for our state and will have an enormous positive impact on each and every one of its citizens. With unprecedented revenues, we were able to give $2 billion back to the people of South Carolina through meaningful tax relief – the largest in South Carolina History. At the same time, we made transformational investments in our infrastructure, public education, law enforcement and public service employees, reserve funds, and more. Let us not forget that today was made possible by years of fiscally responsible leadership and an unwavering commitment to return excess revenue where it belongs: to the pockets of our state’s hardworking taxpayers. Today, we celebrate this remarkable success and incredible investment in South Carolina, her people, and her future.”
